Advanced Roofing Technologies Promotes Community Partnerships and Welcomes First Intern…

Talking about community involvement and helping kids is one thing, and providing real opportunities is another. A few months ago the largest private school in Northern Colorado announced their first internship program for high school seniors. They were searching for business partners to offer real work opportunities to outstanding students. Advanced Roofing Technologies along with and Ward Petroleum stepped forward.

Resurrection Christian School is based in Loveland Colorado. It is commonly known as simply RCS and offers classes from K through 12th grade. Advanced Roofing Technologies president and CEO Brad Evans heard about the pilot program because he has two sons in the school who attend kindergarten and 2nd grade. There always has to be someone to step forward for any new program to be a success. When he heard about RCS’s mentorship program, he enthusiastically embraced the idea. Advance Roofing has never taken on an intern, so this will be a new experience on both sides.

Today’s economy is challenging for young people in Colorado and across the US; offering kids an opportunity to face real challenges in the work environment will help them appreciate the knowledge they’ve gotten in the classroom when they apply these academic skills in the work place.

The internship program was first announced to the RCS senior class in November. Interested students then went through an intensive application and interview process. Every student benefitted from this because it prepared them for their employment searches later in the future.

The faith based school has high academic standards, but also encourages their students to embrace their personal beliefs in all areas of life. At the end of the selection process two internships were awarded. Advanced Roofing Technologies awarded Dominic Murray an internship and Ward Petroleum gave Sam McCreery another. The high school seniors will be given short term or special projects to work on. They’ll gain hands on experience as they work with staff deal and face daily challenges.

High school Internship programs continue to be popular. These opportunities help students build skills and discover their strengths and weaknesses and they use this this experience when they choose a career or profession after they graduate. Colorado can only benefit from more businesses like Advanced Roofing Technologies stepping up to offer serious students opportunities to excel.
